Start on the York outer ring road A1237 at the turn off signposted "Helmsley B1363"... follow to helmsley,along a narrow and very technical road,this really can catch you out,and is policed too.
At Helmsley follow the A170,signposted "Pickering/Scarborough"... follow for 15 miles or so,along a lovely flowing,well surfaced road (perfect RF country) to Pickering,then at the roundabout follow the signs for A169 Whitby.
The A169 is mind blowing,i wont even attempt to explain this road.. you have to be there..
Anyway,follow this to the end and you get into Whitby.
Now you can either head into Whitby itself,or turn right and head down the A171 to Scarborough.
The A171 is another great road,however it can get busy with tourists and caravans..and overtaking is fraught with danger due to hidden dips and severe hairpins.
Upon reaching Scarborough follow the signs for Pickering,A170...head out back towards Helmsley on the other end of the A170 you were on earlier...again,its flowing and quick,but can be heavily patrolled by police.
When you reach pickering roundabout,turn Left,heading for Malton A64...follow to the big roundabout (where Eden Camp war museum is) and that takes you onto the A64 and back towards York and the A1/M1.
Total distance about 60 miles..allow 3 hours plus.

As for the A171 .. it catches loads of users out. especially if they have never been on it!
