Bike of the Month - March 2010 - Jelly's RF900

I sold my previous bike, A Pan European when I left the old bill in April 07 to raise some cash for plant and a van etc and resigned myself
to the fact that I’d get another bike in a ‘couple of years’ once the new business had been established.

One August night of the same year while at a BBQ I was talking to a family member when he mentioned that he was selling something
called a Suzuki RF900 and that I could have it for £800.

Next morning another family member rung me up and said “If you get that RF you can keep it round my garden”. My garden is a fair
size but I cant get a bike around to it!!!

So I pulled the RF up on t’internet and a couple of coloured ones come up, I didn’t know what colour the one for sale was, I thought
well I’ll go and have a look at least.

Image

When I pulled up he had it out on the driveway, gleaming red and I thought “Yeah I like that” he told me about its history (19,000
miles and 2 owners) that it had done 300 miles between MOTs which had just been done along with a service, I snatched his hand off
and the deal was done, I picked it up 2 weeks later. OMG I couldn’t believe the power, it was frightening, and I mean frightening!

I slowly got used the difference between the RF and a big touring bike

Between September and November before I did a track day on it at Brands. Good experience that and I’d love to do another one now
that I’ve had the bike for nearly 2 ½ years.

Image

It came with a flip screen and a top box and rack, but I did nothing to it until I discovered the RFOC March’ish last year. By this time I
started to see how members really looked after their bikes and the customized bits and pieces. I had a trip to Germany booked and a
’dry run’ to Newcastle looming so it was time to start replacing stuff.

New Avon Storms, chain & sprocket, fenda extenda, painted the side stand, new clear indicators, stuck some bar risers on, micron
can and had all the decals replaced in white. All done ready for the two trips, fantastic, fantastic trips too.

I wanna do a few things this year, sort the forks out cos they look a bit scabby, maybe a Tony Archer seat, and an under tray and
hugger would be nice.

Image

If my 6 numbers came up sure id go out and buy a myriad of bikes but id definitely keep the RF. She’d be taken apart and be lavished
upon before being re-built and although I love her so much, and I really love her now, I’d have to have a complete new colour
scheme, which is top secret in case I’m ever able to do it and someone steals it from me and does it first!!

That’s about it really without boring you all with the minor details, most of you know them anyway!

Nice bike. It's amazing how different those white decals make it look!

Cheers shandy,
it all started with the RFOC sticker and the Suzuki sticker just behind the indicator.
I thought "umm that White on red looks really cool!"
I bought a complete set from fleecebay but the 900 was all out of proprtion so I contacted a decal co that we use for works motors and he traced the originals and replaced everything in White, all for £50!!!

shifty????

Perhaps that's why my skipper used to let me go out on patrol in plain clothes!

I used to catch quite a few crims like that, looking like one myself!!!
